Gasholder 1, with its innovative lattice design was constructed in 1892 and is the oldest surviving example of its kind.
While other cities around the world are saving these landmark structures and finding new uses for them, it seems as if the Council struck Gas Holder No.1 from its list of industrial heritage sites, at the same time English Heritage was assessing its significance.
Isn’t it time we all stood up for Holder No.1!
