If you walk past Brooks Cafe on a Friday morning, whatever the weather, you will see Cengis outside grilling shish kebabs for his lunchtime customers. The cafe is on Brooks Road, just by the junction with Silsoe Road. Incidentally the Brook is Haringey's only river, the Moselle Brook, which runs underground nearby.
Cengiz says his name is the Turkish form of Genghis. He has worked in the cafe since 2004 and his father used to grill the kebabs on the pavement before him.
